It’s worth keeping in mind that this song came out in 2006, so a lot of the sounds and vocal techniques that may seem very familiar now were quite original back then. In fact, the whole song felt quite avantgarde when it was first released.
@@jasonknotts5001 Ha ha, fair enough. In my defence, I deliberately used the word “quite” twice by way of qualification. It is extremely difficult to be truly original and not to be at least subconsciously influenced to some degree by the music that you listen to, like and admire when composing a song. I tried to do it myself around the 1990s, but my mediocre efforts no doubt failed that test, even if I thought they were “original” at the time. On the bands you mention: Korn - yes, I agree totally; Deftones - also very original, though arguably their music less so than Chino’s singing, but his voice is unique and very hard to copy or even harmonise with, although Maynard did a fantastic job (no surprise there) on the magnificent Passenger in 2000.
Breaking Benjamin is definitely one of my favorite bands and it was this song and So Cold that got me introduced to the band when I was a kid. There's tons of songs to dive into like Red Cold River, Ashes of Eden, Angels Fall, Dance with the Devil, Failure, Save Yourself, Close to Heaven, Until the End, Give Me A Sign, literally so many great songs to dive into!
I have so much love for Breaking Benjamin. They were my favorite band for a pretty long time back in college. Sometimes when I listen to songs I’ll think “eh I think this would’ve sounded better if they had done it this way,” but whenever I listened to Breaking Benjamin and would think “man this will sound so good if they transition like this,” then they did it. It just hit my style so perfectly. I Will Not Bow is another of my favorites by them
I have always said that Breaking Benjamin is one of the most underrated bands out there. They have so much talent and they deserve so much credit. One of my favorite bands out there
Aileen, Breaking Benjamin has a amazing catalog of music and have grown even more impressive over the years. The album "Dark Before Dawn" came out after a hiatus which we all thought the band was gone but this album came out showing just how amazing Ben is and I think is one of his best albums in whole. Also the "Aurora" is pure beauty where he took many of his earlier hits and reimagined them with collabs with many other amazing artists. It also features a new song with "cold" front singer Scooter Ward name "Far Away" in which their voices blend together so amazingly it is hard to tell when one starts and the other ends. Just some food for thought for you when you start to look for other BB songs to react to.
I've become that typical old guy who goes "the new stuff was better" because I feel as if the new stuff is over produced, at least compared to how raw the 1st 3 albums felt. That said I still really enjoy them and I know a large part of why the new sound is that way is to help with Ben's vocals that has suffered from being sick. You can't go wrong with any of their albums.
Breaking Benjamin is one of those classic rock bands that is pretty much Universally loved by everyone and it’s such a nice moment getting to see you react to them for the first time. I feel like a lot of us first time listening to these guys was back in Halo 2 during a level where they had “Blow Me Away” during which was *HYPE* as a 13 year old 🥹Their choruses have always been some of my favorites! Watching you rock out to it and enjoy the song was so cute 😭 When you called it a nice “4 course meal”, I felt that. Excited for you to continue this rabbit hole! ❤️
I love breaking Benjamin especially when I first heard them through halo 2 on the final mission I’ve been listening to them every since and this song is a killer banger
Hahaha this was how I found them too. Love to see others went down that path. I bought the Halo 2 soundtrack for the song (and that banger Marty O'Donnell score)
I listened to Breaking Benjamin when I was about 15. So nostalgic to hear it again 15 years later. For me, their best music is "Dance with the devil", "Until the end" and "Blow me away" from Halo 2 OST.
When I worked at Hollywood Video, we had to play a screener that had this video on it. It reminded me of my karaoke bc I went to a (mostly) country bar and sang alternative songs. Him screaming "what have I become" reminded me of me screaming on songs that required me to scream. It was amazing.
LOVE Breaking Benjamin. Got to see them live 5 or 6 years ago, and they put on an AMAZING set. My personal favorite of their songs is "I Will Not Bow", closely followed by "Breath". I highly recommend giving those a good listen.
This song is about a girl who killed herself and he's trying to find his place in her life, but she didn't even know her place in her life. The mirrors were a sign of her psychosis and the battles she was facing. He was reading her diary to know if he could've saved her. Breaking Benjamin did a thing to explain the song. Also, Breaking Benjamin hasn't made a bad album as far as I know.
Saw these guys live just a couple months ago and they still kick ass 17 years later! Just amazing energy all around and very consistent on an album to album basis. You could honestly react to anything by them and it’ll be amazing!
I seen them in person in TX. When they didnt play this song and walked off the stage the crowd yelled it over and over until they came back and delivered🔥🔥🔥 Was a great experience duing a good time in my life miss those days. When I hear these songs it just flashes me back to the more simple times..
"Dear Agony", "Give me a Sign", and "Blow me Away", I recommend... Blow me away was in Halo 2 and it's just well done... Breaking Benjamin is also super amazing in concert
Undeniably one of their best cover to cover albums is where this tune nests. 2007 I was a manager at a bar and when we closed we would crank this loud as shit, the bartenders and kitchen smoked a blunt with me while I counted cash, and they got to cleaning. The memories we weave with music.
Bro, this entire album is a masterpiece! I mean every song on (phobia) is JUST as good as this one. The singer wrote the whole album high on coke. Had to go to rehab before the tour.
Breaking Benjamin is basically Ben Burnley (vocals & guitar)... formed the band in Pennsylvania in the late 90's as a "post-grunge" rock band. They debuted in 2002 w/ 'Saturate' album... followed by 'We are not alone' (2004)... ('So cold' was a big single from this record) ...but it was this record 'Phobia' (2006) that made Breaking Benjamin huge... 'Breath' is another huge single off this album... It was followed by 'Dear Agony' (2009)... Ben Burnley is still making records and touring w/ Breaking Benjamin and are still popular today.
Ben Burnley = vocals/guitar Breaking Benjamin have been here since 2001 and going strong. They have a huge catalogue, Ben is great at cleans and screams and growls. Can’t wait for you to dive into them more, they have songs that kick ass, hit you in the feels and melt your face off too. Been a die hard fan since day one 🤘🏻🤘🏻 can’t wait to see more!!
Breaking Benjamin has been a consistently good band for two decades. Lead singer even replaced the entire band and still came out with a great new album while dealing with his recurring issues from being an alcoholic.
Last year I think, The lead singer from Breaking Benjamin covered Would by Alice n Chains with Gavin Rosedale , the lead singer of Bush. It's live and worth a watch.
Breaking benjamin are from my area in Pennsylvania. I remember the local radio stations used to play them so much when they were first breaking out. I was pretty young at the time, but theyve been one of my favorite bands for as long as i can remember. Theyre probably one of the main reasons why i really got into metal
I saw them quite a few years ago when they were just getting started. Local town fair that has a weekend concert for pretty much anyone that wants to play. They kicked ass, sounded very good for what I thought was a garage band. Actually they had just been signed and were putting out their first album, they just lived in the next town over from me. This song was one of my high school anthems. Played this thing on repeat on my ipod video on the way to school with one earbud in sharing the left with a girl I had a crush on. Then would listen to it at home on loop, tabs printed out, while I learned to play it on guitar. What a wave of nostalgia this was.

Oh damn! Been a fan for 10 years and BB has been my favorite during these years. There is not a single song that is bad. Not one! You can listen to any song and it's a banger!
Thank you for reacting to this! I've been listening to BB for nearly 20 years, and I'm turning 30 this year... They are still one of my favorite bands of all time! Ben's voice, heavy riffs, lyrics... all of it... It just hits for me. Love them. I highly recommend checking out (& ofc reacting to) more of Breaking Benjamin! "So Cold" has to be my favorite song by them, and "Dear Agony" is my favorite album overall, so many good songs on it!
More Breaking Benjamin please!!! They have NO SINGLE bad song! Also they have a trilogy of music videos: Red Cold River, Torn in Two and Tourniquet. They have a whole storyline and they are a masterpieces.
September 2008, my first semester of college, and the time I was introduced to this band. My fall playlist for that year was special. Also, Pendulum's "In Silico" came out during that time.
Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band of all time easily. Getting their logo tatted on me soon! I grew up with them and I will have their song “Unknown soldier” played at my funeral! They got me through my childhood in one piece and kept my mental health in check. They mean so much to me. Thanks for checking them out.
Give us more Breaking Benjamin reactions please! So Cold, Without You, Angels Fall, Failure, Dear Agony, Give me a Sign, Hollow and more and more...❤️❤️❤️
I've been listening to these guys since I was a pre-teen (31 now) first song I heard was So Cold. I've always been a fan of their music but whenever their album "Dear Agony" came out I fell in love. I would have to drive 1 hour a day and I would listen to the album front to back for many night drives. I also relate to the vocalist Benjamin a lot. They're the only band that I've gotten their logo tattooed on me because their music means so much to me, plus their logo (Benjamin Clover) is just badass.
Absolutely a band worth venturing into. Ive loved them since the 1st album, & for me personally, every song on every album is a banger. Incredible band
Breaking Benjamin is my all time favorite band! I have been listening to them since middle school and have not looked back since then! Benjamin Burnley has this unique talent with his voice to go 0 to 100 real quick. Their song Crawl is a perfect example of it, so is Breath! I am happy you are getting to do a song of them, and definitely a banger to start with! I'd highly suggest you check out songs from their albums Phobia, Dear Agony, and Dark Before Dawn. My all time favorite song from them is Dear Agony from the album of the same name. Thank you Aileen! Much love!

Holy shit, I didn't remember it was that old. They were way ahead of their time then
They had singles even before Diary that showed this
No it didn't dude lol. This was already overdone by the time it came out. Korn and Deftones had been doing it for 15 years at this point.
@jasonknotts5001 comparing Korn, Deftones and BB was a choice, I'll give you that, very little in common between any of those bands

So Cold, Away, Breath, Failure, Red Cold River etc. are all absolute bangers by BB.
I Will Not Bow as well
Firefly is such a banger as well
Blow me away and I can’t remember the name of one…. Something like dancing with devil or dancing in a burning room …. Something
to name a few.
"evil angel" is criminally underrated, "I will not bow" and "until the end" are also some of my faves. those are definitely some highlights.

My first and favourite song from Breaking Benjamin is I Will Not Bow, it was a great song and the vocals in that song are very similar to this song
During an interview he explains that the song is about a Jane Doe he seen on TV and the importance of everyone’s life. Then he made up a story about her life.
