The real reason why most families in games don't look alike is because many devs don't customize their models.
Simple as that.
And Patreon isn't the only platform in existence, you know, and they all have difference rules and varying tolerances. SubscribeStar, Patreon, and Steam for instance all treat it very differently.
Even with my limited knowledge of 3d modeling and texture, I have a hard time imagining devs don't know how to customize hue if they know how to pose and import models lol.
I stand by what I said, there are a lot of games that are hand drawn or whatever and still don't make them look related.
