After Sarah left I moved into a small apartment over my Step-Mother's garage. She lived alone in a big house in the country. My Step-Mother was happy to have the company, and I guess I was too. It was mostly quiet. I could rest, and think, and rest more. It was a hot summer. The first few weeks I would only go outside to smoke cigarettes on the porch and to lift weights at night in the garage. My Step-Mother would come over everyday and we would talk. She would try to comfort me and try to get me to leave the house with her. She just wanted me to be happy... I guess we were both pretty lonely back then... But now with my Step-Mother resting in bed, her head resting peacefully in my lap, it's almost hard to remember we weren't always like this....
