Description

Nyssa has acquired an antique wood/leather bellows-style foot pump, and wants to see whether one full mash of the big pedal delivers more or less air than one full puff from her lungs. She begins by trying a Betallatex 360 balloon, which she knows (hopes?) might be beyond the pressure capabilities of the antique pump. Sure enough, as she aligns her toes at the top of the pedal, and presses with all her might, what happens is a whole lot of nothing. She tries several more times, then switches to a modern plastic version of the bellows pump. Here again, she curls her toes and presses with all her might, and is finally rewarded with some air in the balloon. Now it's time to blow one the old fashioned way - which she does, and far surpasses the amount of air the pump was able to deliver. Finally, as a control against the pressure limitations of the pumps, she repeats the tests with a common round balloon (Qualatex 9"). While the foot pumps fare much better, her lungs are still the champion!
