Zonah has long been fascinated by the hot water bottles we test at the Inflation Laboratory. While at work in her office one day, she decides to informally test one of our new products, the Portable Hot Water Bottle Inflation Tube. At only five feet tall, she is not sure how well she will do inflating something so large and thick, but she just relaxes and delivers one big puff after the next. In a very short time, she gets it to a very impressive size, and knows she could finish it if she wanted to. But her real curiosity is what these are like to blow up *without* our usual safety measures. First, she tries a tube that is identical, but without the customary one-way "check valve." She experiments with several methods of backstopping the pressure while drawing another breath, and gets another fresh rubber vessel to considerable size before taking a break. She realizes that she will need to practice some more before popping one this way, and doesn't want to over-strain herself and have to explain to the company doctor what she was doing, But her real curiosity is what is it like to just put her lips directly to one of these rubber bags, draw a breath, inflate her cheeks, and push the air into it. She proceeds to do just that, trying several different positions for the nozzle and her lips. Again, she manages to expand it. After this initial success, I think we can anticipate further experimentation!
