Angel Smalls is a paid actress who is tasked with lying perfectly still on the exam table, pretending to be a beautiful, fresh body for them to work with. Dr. John inspects the body, taking samples, photographs and notes throughout before wrapping her hands and feet in gauze so that she can be autopsied later in the day.
